am a cognitive psychologist (Ph.D., Iowa State University) and principal
of HumFax. I
have been on the consulting engineering staffs of companies producing
commercial, industrial and military products and systems.
I operate HumFax as an independent consultancy but sometimes team with
other design and engineering professionals to provide my clients with

NOTE: Assuring that sound human factors principles are incorporated into
a product requires more than conducting interviews, performing studies,
profiling users, carrying out analyses, writing reports or delivering
recommendations. It requires the ability to persuade product managers to
implement those principles in a business environment of competing design
considerations, and it is an ability in which I am quite adept.
